On June 5th, 2023, Habitat for Humanity had a yearly Cork and Fork fundraiser. I was an event photographer in South Anchorage, Alaska.
Quick info on the organization, if anyone doesn’t know:
Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. Its mission is to build “simple, decent, and affordable” housing in partnership with low-income families, emphasizing the importance of affordable homeownership to break the cycle of poverty. Habitat for Humanity operates in over 70 countries, including the United States. The organization’s work is carried out through volunteer labor, donations, and support from partner organizations.
Now to the event:
The venue looked very nice, and the volunteers did a great job. A big part of the event was wine testing. Everyone older than 21 was able to try a variety of different wines and buy it. It was also a wine lottery, where you pay a set amount and get random wine, and it could be a very good and expensive one!
Did you know about wine legs? It’s pretty cool: Legs refer to the droplets or streaks inside the wine glass after swirling. Many people believe that the appearance of the legs can indicate the wine’s alcohol content or viscosity. However, it’s more of a fun observation than a definitive quality measure.
They also had 2 auctions.
The first one was silent when everyone was able to bid online. The second one was an open auction, and it went very well. People were so generous; I’m sure it will help many families and individuals who can’t afford housing.
It was a pleasure to be an event photographer and do something good at the same time. My session was one of the bids. Hopefully, someone will get a brand new window for the house out of it!
