Everyone knows Alyeska as a unique ski resort where people go November-April for world-class slopes and amazing above-the-clouds views. They also have a lovely wedding venue at Alyeska Resort.

As a wedding photographer, I was excited about the location and an upcoming event. We didn’t do an engagement session because they flew in just a few days before, and we needed more time. The couple planned an outdoor wedding, but a recent avalanche changed our plans. It did not look good for more than a week – a constant stream of dirt ran downhill. It dried well before the wedding day so we could enjoy the lovely view.

Closed to the top, we realized how windy and cold it was, and a little higher, we were in the cloud. Put it all together, and it’s a perfect recipe for panic! No time, no views, snow, and everyone is in a rush. But skydiving taught me never to panic.

We started preparation at Sarah’s Chair, where the bridal party got make-up and hair done, tick a few pictures of Kyla and her mom putting on the dresses, jewelry, and shoes, and headed to the venue. The first look was hilarious; Shane used eye drops to look like he was crying; I think it’s the best idea ever. We used a tram to get up the mountain for the couples and group pictures. Everybody was very excited, but we were short on time, I had 15 minutes for all of it, and when I usually take 1h for a couple and 1 hour for groups, it was tight.

Pictures and the ceremony

I found a pretty place right on the slope by the tram and took shots of 3 couple poses I love—1-2-3 boom- moving to eat groups. Right on the observation deck, we had a nice background. When the girls got ready, I took a few shots of the groomsmen, families, bridesmaids, and a few more couple portraits – and we were on time for the tram! So proud of myself.

It’s unbelievable, but the ceremony started on time. My second photographer Brionna Lopez was already there and ready. The food was outstanding, the service was excellent, and the first dance was so full of love.
